Even though I am just a layman when it comes to law, I have pondered about legalities and ethics when it comes to copying websites. If you are asking yourself if to copy a website is okay or not, you may benefit from the observations I offer on the matter in this article. Do however notice that I am not a lawyer, and that you should do your own research about copying websites. Do also remember that many countries have different legislation, interpretation and precedence of fair use and copyrights.

If You Wish to Copy a Website
If you own the website you wish to copy, e.g. as backup or to show clients, you can do as you wish since that to the degree you own it, you also have the copyright. However, if you wish to use a website copier tool on a website you do not own, there are some considerations you should make:

While the tutorial focuses on showing how to download all pictures, it also explains how you can use A1 Website Download to download all files of whatever types you want from websites.

Below you can see a screenshot taken after a website download has finished. In this specific example, the website download program was configured to only grab images and pictures. Such configuration is ideal if you want to download a photo gallery or similar from a website. (Could also be wallpaper pictures, computer graphics, 3D modeling images etc.)

While you can manually configure the file types and extensions you want downloaded in A1 Website Download (e.g. .jpg, .gif, and .png) the tool includes a list of “quick presets”. One of these presets automatically configures the website download to only include picures and photos.

Downloading Websites Tutorial
This guide explains how you can download websites including images with the program A1 Website Download. This is a software product we created. Throughout this tutorial we will use default settings. The website downloader program has a rich set of configuration options that allows you to download and store certain files, e.g. images. However, for most websites, you will want to use the default settings changing nothing or very little.

Download The Website
You only need to configure one option, Website directory root path. After that, click the Start scan button.

Viewing The Downloaded Website
After the website has finished downloading, you are automatically shown the results. There is also quick access to open the downloaded website in other internet browsers installed on your system. This can sometimes give better results than using the embedded browser.

It is worth noting that A1 Website Download can also be configured to e.g. only download website images – this being useful in case you are mainly interested in downloading e.g. picture or photo galleries. (The same concept can however be used for files of any type, e.g. .PDF documents or whatever.)
